I'm thinking the RCX is what's controlling the drive mechanism.

The RCX is for moving, count the motors, 6 NXT motors: 2 at the tip of the arm, 2 for move ments, and 2 beside the NXT. (no idea what it does)Maybe thats what drives it but the RCX wouldnt be counter-wieght cause there's wire on the RCX.
